Both the Modern and Ancient genes work on a similarly tiered system as the Modern breeding rarities do; I.E, breeding a dragon with a Basic primary with a dragon with Butterfly (rare) as their primary, you will almost 100% of the time get hatchlings with Basic primaries!To put it simply, Primary genes affect mainly the body of the dragon. Secondary genes mainly affect the wings and accents like tail fur, head feathers, occasionally horns, etc.. Tertiary genes are more wildcards. They can affect the entirety of the dragon or just a select part. Consider it an accent gene. "Basic" genes means that there is no visible gene there, it's just the flat color. Something to keep in mind, though, is that Ancient dragons have their own set of genes that are available to them. It might be a version of a Modern gene (also known as Parallels) or it might be entirely unique to that dragon breed!
