The Sad Case of Weatherman Bill Kamal

Bill Kamal was a handsome weatherman whom I would see on TV in the Washington DC area. Then he moved to a Florida station.

He was arrested in an underage sex sting in 2004. He was going to pick up who he thought was a 14 year old boy for sex (Kamal claimed counseling about coming out), but police arrested him.

He was given a 5 year prison sentence and $20K fine and he had to register as a sex offender when released from prison---except he never actually had sex with any kid.

These punishments have gone nuts and seem to be closer to thought crimes than actual crimes.

Anyone know whatever happened to Bill Kamal afterwards?

He opened one of the best pizza joints in D.C. and named it Jizzy's

Someone has opened a fake Twitter account for him with this caption: “weatherman & little boy enthusiast.”

Offsite Linkby Anonymous   reply 2   October 18, 2022 9:04 PM

He's a children's entertainer. You can book him for your twin son's birthday. He goes by the name Funky Spunky.

by Anonymous   reply 3   October 18, 2022 9:07 PM

Is it true that he has one ball?

by Anonymous   reply 4   October 18, 2022 9:08 PM

I would say it's a pretty bad idea to collect strange young boys for "counselling"

by Anonymous   reply 5   October 18, 2022 9:12 PM

l Kamal, the senior weathercaster at Channel 9, was fired yesterday morning on the eve of potentially the biggest weather story in years.

News Director Dave Pearce said he "reluctantly" released Kamal as part of a reorganization of the WUSA weather team. The station is seeking a "personality" to take over the weather on the major nightly newscasts at 5, 6 and 11.

Pearce said Doug Hill, Topper Shutt and Tony Williams will continue on the "weather team."

"I think the world of Bill Kamal and he knows that," Pearce said. "He's a fine weatherman, he's worked hard and I've told him if he needs me to help in the future I'll be there."

Kamal had been working without a contract since June. Pearce said the decision to drop him was made several weeks ago when it was determined he would not be a candidate for the top job with the reorganization. He said he had planned to make the change earlier this week.

Kamal, who joined the station in September 1982, won an Emmy for best weathercast in 1989. Most recently he has done the weathercasts at noon and 6 p.m., while Hill handles the late-night newscast.

Kamal said he was stunned when Pearce summoned him yesterday morning shortly after a planning meeting for coverage of the pending storm.

I had no inkling of this," Kamal said yesterday. "I wish I could give you a reason but honestly I can't. I'd heard rumors there might be changes in weather but I never thought it would be me to go. I'd been here the longest and frankly I know I'm popular with viewers and the staff."

There was only evidence one of such boy.

by Anonymous   reply 7   October 18, 2022 9:13 PM

A former South Florida TV weatherman whose high-visibility career was ruined by an Internet sex sting four years ago has been released from federal prison, government records show.

Bill Kamal, 51, was recently moved from a facility in Massachusetts to a halfway-house program in Philadelphia, according to the Web site run by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

It was unclear whether that's where Kamal, a former Fort Lauderdale resident, will remain until the scheduled end of his sentence in March.

Kamal, a very familiar face to South Florida television viewers, was chief meteorologist at WSVN-Channel 7 for a decade.

He pleaded guilty to a federal charge that he used the Internet to arrange a sexual encounter with someone he thought was a 14-year-old boy but was instead an undercover detective with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested Kamal on Oct. 24, 2004, near Fort Pierce when he pulled into a convenience-store parking lot where authorities alleged he was planning to pick up the boy. WSVN fired Kamal immediately after his arrest.

A federal judge in February 2005 gave Kamal the minimum five-year prison sentence for the criminal count of using the Internet to solicit a child for sex and ordered that he pay a $20,000 fine and be placed on probation for the rest of his life.

Additionally, most states would require Kamal to register as a sex offender upon taking up residence.

Geez, what is it with south Florida weathermen diddling young guys.

I present Rob Lopicola.

Don't get me wrong, when I was a teenager, I would gladly have hooked up with a dude who looked like this.

Offsite Linkby Anonymous   reply 11   October 18, 2022 9:24 PM

I'm always confused about these cases. Technically and literally, these guys weren't communicating or meeting with minors.

I used to watch To Catch a Predator. Those cases could not be pursued because of "entrapment".

by Anonymous   reply 12   October 18, 2022 9:27 PM

R12, exactly. Has any of this been challenged in courts. Tons are entrapped and sent to jail when there was actually no act or sometimes even communication with a minor.

Rob Lopicola's you tube mea culpa from June 2022-

I was a successful NBC weatherman who seemingly had it all: fitness, modeling, I was a TV broadcast meteorologist, had a beautiful condo, and an dog. Appearances can be deceiving however. I was a struggling addict and alcoholic. My life came crashing down when my disease of addiction progressed and I was out of control sexually, with drugs, and alcohol. I ended up bankrupt and homeless. My behavior became increasingly reckless and careless. I was arrested in 2012 and sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The media made me look like a Monster. This video is the story the media did not share, my story.

My life completely transformed during those 5 years, under the mentorship of Tony. He taught me a design for living that works. I surrendered the day I was arrested and waved my white flag. My mentor, Tony, taught me how to live free from all addictive behaviors. Today, I am clean and sober nearly 10 years (as of posting this in 2022).

This video is my story.

Yeah, I've always seen blaming so-called "addictions" for poor choices and bad behavior a complete cop-out and abdication of responsibility.

That's "having it all"? Anyone can buy a dog or a condo. And this may come as a shock to him, but not everyone in the world wants to model.

He's exposed to us exactly why he fell apart: he's shallow.

by Anonymous   reply 20   October 18, 2022 10:48 PM

I guess grifting beats flipping burgers or mopping floors because you can't get hired doing anything else due to your shitty life choices.

by Anonymous   reply 23   October 19, 2022 12:28 AM

Of course, his confessional conveniently leaves out that he was convicted of blowing two underage boys (one of whose mother caught him hiding in her shower). If you didn't know better, you'd think he only got in trouble for sexting.

Offsite Linkby Anonymous   reply 24   October 19, 2022 12:37 AM

Plus the sexting was gross on its own

Offsite Linkby Anonymous   reply 25   October 19, 2022 12:38 AM

Damn, he was my local weatherman and I completely missed all of this when it happened (I was in high school when this went down so I assume I was too busy with like, AP classes or some shit to hear about it).

by Anonymous   reply 26   October 19, 2022 12:41 AM

If he met up with and exchanged sexual content with a minor via text he is guilty but if he's texting an undercover agent, he is entrapped.

by Anonymous   reply 27   October 19, 2022 12:51 AM

Entrapment: The act of government agents or officials that induces a person to commit a crime he or she is not previously disposed to commit.

In the USA there has long been established a defence of entrapment where undercover police positively promote a crime that would not otherwise have occurred. The defence will not, however, be competent where policemen have merely joined an illegal practice.

Offsite Linkby Anonymous   reply 28   October 19, 2022 1:00 AM

Intent: a determination to perform a particular act or to act in a particular manner for a specific reason; an aim or design; a resolution to use a certain means to reach an end.

Criminal law has attempted to clarify the intent requirement by creating the concepts of "specific intent" and "general intent." Specific Intent refers to a particular state of mind that seeks to accomplish the precise act that the law prohibits—for example, a specific intent to commit rape. Sometimes it means an intent to do something beyond that which is done, such as assault with intent to commit rape. The prosecution must show that the defendant purposely or knowingly committed the crime at issue.

General intent refers to the intent to do that which the law prohibits. It is not necessary for the prosecution to prove that the defendant intended the precise harm or the precise result that occurred. Thus, in most states, a defendant who kills a person with a gun while intoxicated, to the extent that the defendant is not aware of having a gun, will be guilty of second-degree murder. The law will infer that the defendant had a general intent to kill.

Do you still want to call it "entrapment" after reading the utter depravity and filth that that Lopicola chomo was saying to a 13 year old? For those who didn't read the article, he just didn't sext some kids - he was found hiding naked in the bathroom of a kid he hooked up with by the boys mother. In my world, you have my blessing to entrap any creep who goes to those lengths to meet a minor.

No one should get arrested for creepy texts. Much of it is just sex fantasy and doubtful would ever happen. Plus, he was hiding in the bathroom of a 17 year old.

by Anonymous   reply 34   October 19, 2022 8:47 PM

I knew Bill Kamal in Washington DC - he was a good guy. His case definitely seems line entrapment - he didn’t actually communicate with a minor. I think if something like that happened to him today he wouldn’t end up in prison. Wonder what he’s up to now? I now he was from the Boston area.

by Anonymous   reply 35   January 3, 2024 4:50 PM

So if I try to hook up with a 13 yo, buy some discount surface to air rockets or try to buy a hit man it should be entrapment and I should get off because it was a govt agent and not an actual 13 yo, a real terriorst with rockets, or an actual hitman in the other end of that text?

Just wait to the gop is in charge for a few years. Some of you are going to need to move you are just not going to make it...

It's not that sad. I'll never get why adults who like em young don't give themselves some leeway. Fuck 19 year olds, young-looking 22 year olds. It's not like late teens, early 20s can't be fresh and nubile.

I'm betting that part of the thrill is the fact they ARE only 14 and underage. They get off on the illicit behavior which is shunned by society, as well as the smooth young bodies. They also probably like the idea of them being "innocent" and not experienced. There is an entire market for buying a young person's viriginity in the sex trade.

i believe it’s like someone meeting with a hit man and arranging a murder - even when the “hit man” is an undercover cop.

It’s criminal intent of a very serious crime.

grew up with a man who tried this from an online chat, thinking the girl was 13 years old. He was arrested at the arranged meeting place and sentenced to a ten year mandatory term. Courts do this because when the real thing occurs, kids wind up dead in dumpsters. A good man starts thinking about his career, his reputation, his wife and kids...easier to get rid of the kid.

I don’t think this is exactly true. I mean, so many people were sexually abused while underage (both male and female)… why aren’t they all dead?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post.

by Anonymous   reply 43   January 3, 2024 7:00 PM

Yes, I think you had a mad crush on this Kamal guy and are purposely misunderstanding anything that sounds like opposition. Look, he had the intention of having sex with a kid. As someone who travels a lot and uses both apps and phone lines for occasional hookups, I can tell you that guys chasing underage boys seems to be way more visible or prevalent now than it was 20 years ago, and I assume a lot of that increase in guys thinking about that shit is driven by meth.

(As for me, I never understood it as I was always into older guys even when I *was* a college kid, so.....*shrugs*)

Bill Kamal was a weatherman in my former home town of Evansville, Indiana when he was starting out. Even as a 12 year old I heard rumors about him being gay. I wasn’t actively dating at the time, so I never met him.

R48, there isn't any evidence that child abuse is on the rise (in fact, crime is going down).

Though social media has made it easier for some predators to troll for victims

A high school classmate of mine has a very long federal prison sentence because he solicited what he thought was a mother and her 10/11 year old daughter online.
