A man who went by the alias ‘Badness’ was shot and killed by unknown assailants in Golden Grove, St Ann, Sunday night.

Dead is 56-year-old Alcan Rose, who is also known as ‘Bax’, of no fixed address.

According to the police, residents reported that, on Sunday about 10:30 p.m., six loud explosions sounding like gunshots were heard near the Fesco service station in the vicinity.

About 7:30 Monday morning, citizens discovered Rose’s body and contacted the Claremont police.

When the police arrived, they saw the body lying on its back with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

The scene was processed and the body taken to the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital where Rose was confirmed dead.

Investigations are ongoing.

Rose’s death adds to a rising murder toll in St Ann that entered troubling territory for the parish in 2024.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has reported that, from January 1 to March 23 this year, there have been 18 murders, three more than the 15 recorded for the corresponding period in 2023.

This figure includes four murders that were committed during an eight-day period from March 12 to 19.

On March 19, the body of Marlon Mullings, a taxi operator of Windsor Heights, St Ann’s Bay, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in Aberdeen district, near Brown’s Town.

On March 26, 45-year-old farmer Tyrone Brown, of Cowley district near Claremont, was chopped to death while at his farm. The police have since charged a nephew of the deceased, Nicholas Thompson, 26, of McNie district, also in St Ann, with the farmer’s murder.

St Ann has however seen a decrease in shootings and rape over the period ending March 23.

Shootings were down to eight from 11 last year, while rape was down to two from five last year.
